Armageddon’s Arrival By Schawny-boi

Here is a new story by a new bard!

Armageddon’s Arrival By Schawny-boi - 202 pages (Warlord/Conqueror)
Xena and Gabrielle are sent into the future by Ares to stop the world from ending. The timeline is right after the events of “Is there a Doctor in the House” Xena, is just starting down the path of redemption, and Gabrielle is a study in innocence. The story depicts a budding romance between Xena and Gabrielle. No massive sex scenes, but plenty of deep moments, thoughtful conversations, loads of cuddles, and a few chaste kisses between consenting adults.

From The Beginning by Cheyne

From The Beginning by Cheyne - 95 pages
This story is my Uberization, based on the 1951 screenplay, The Day The Earth Stood Still, by Edmund H. North (which is based on the novel, Farewell To The Master, by Harry Bates). No money is being made from this project and no copyright infringement intended.

I always wanted to see this film remade with Klaatu as a female. I initially (many years ago) thought Sigourney Weaver would have made an excellent Klaatu (even if they changed the “Helen” character to male).  Instead, TPTB remade this classic with Keanu Reeves. I love KR but the remake, IMHO, completely missed the message of and couldn’t hold a candle to the original.
Anyway, here is my effort to retell the original story with two of our favorite women in the pivotal roles.

Second Generation by Littlespit

When life deals us a bad hand so many of us wish for a do over. But that’s not how life works. We have to play the hand we were dealt, and do the best we can with it. That‘s what Elise Covington and Angela Popodopolis did. They were childhood friends that knew early on they were soul mates, but they were too young to do anything about it.

When they were twelve years-old Angela’s father's job transfers him to Greece, and of course he takes his family with him. But the girls were determined to remain close. They swore to write every day and never forget what they meant to one another. And that was how things went with them for the next four years. Then, when they were sixteen years-old, something went wrong, and the letters stopped.

Eleven years later they find one another again through their daughters, and they both want to know one thing. . .why did their friendship end?

Second Generation by Littlespit - 41 pages
A romantic tale of love and friendship rediscovered, and all by the grace of the gods and a second generation of an angelic, green-eyed blonde and her blue-eyed lonely dark haired new friend.

Till There Was You by S. Anne Gardner

Intense. That’s the word that comes to mind when I think about the stories written by S. Anne Gardner. Intense. This story is no exception, it’s just as penetrating and passionate as any of her other works. But, I will say this. In my opinion this story is as close as S. Anne has ever come to a sweet uncomplicated romantic tale.

Notice that I said close. There is still angst, drama, misunderstandings and big blow ups, but unlike her other stories there is no years long separations to endure, or devious deceptions between the lovers to wade through, and there is no vengeful, misguided dark woman blackmailing an ex-childhood friend into a relationship. Nope, this story is about Julia Alston-Vale a rich, closed-off executive that, as she puts it, “Owns the county.”

But Julia has personal demons that she has to fight (another S. Anne standard) The one person in her life that she loves unconditionally is her niece, Nicole. Nicole is the only person that can get passed the walls that Julia has built around her heart. That is until Julia spots Theodora Greyson riding her horse on Julia’s land . . .without permission. (uh, oh) Once she’s confronted by the irate Julia, Theodora makes the unimaginable offense of insisting that Julia would “Please, call me Teddy.” How dare the woman!

After reading that I guess you wonder why I would say that this is very close to being a sweet uncomplicated romantic tale. I say that because the dominate lead character in this story isn’t as dark as the others the author has written about. She is still demanding, and at times questionably aggressive in her desire for Teddy, but the conflicts that present themselves to the women don’t stretch out for overly long periods of time, and it doesn’t really take that long for Julia and Teddy to admit their attraction to one another. But read it for yourself and tell me what you think about Till There Was You.

How Do You Mend a Broken Heart by Ali Vali

After I read this story about childhood friends reconnecting, I thought, “Hmm, if people hadn’t interfered with these two when they were teenagers they would have never been apart.”

There are many stories out there where young love turns sour, and the couple will go their separate ways, only to find one another again as adults and then make a go of it. In those stories it seems like the separation might have been for the best, ‘cause folks need to grow, change and live a little life before committing to one person forever. But I don’t see that with Harry and Desi, in my opinion they would have been just fine without the decades long break.

The story opens with Harry, now an orthopedic surgeon, evaluating the severely injured leg of her childhood sweetheart, Desi, whose brute of a husband has taken a baseball bat to her. That’s where the reunion begins. Along the way Desi finds out that Harry, real name Harrietta (I would have shortened it to Harry too), has never forgotten her, and Harry finds out that through the years Desi has had daily conversations with her lost love, missing her terribly.

But we all know that nothing good comes easy. Desi’s husband is in no way ready to let his wife go, and even with the threat of jail time hanging over his head he’s not giving up. Here is Desi’s opinion of her husband.

She knew Byron well enough to know he wouldn't walk away without a fight, literally. Byron understood only one thing. If he didn't like something he balled his fists and beat it until it either surrendered or died, and every threat he'd ever made was forefront in her mind.

Sounds like a real sweetheart doesn’t he? If you want to find out if Desi’s thoughts are accurate take some time out of your day and read How Do You Mend a Broken Heart, and its sequel, All it took was you (it‘s just as good). You won’t be disappointed. There is also a companion piece titled Belle Of The Mist. It’s a Halloween story.

How Do You Mend A Broken Heart
Do you remember your first love? Harry Basantes did. She remembered with vivid clarity the way young love could break your heart leaving you empty inside. Would seeing the object of her pain and desire sixteen years later drive Harry to forgiveness, or would it be her turn to walk away without explanations? Only one way to find out.

All It Took Was
You knew there had to be a sequel to How Do You Mend A Broken Heart, and here it is. Harry and Desi are busy building a life together after Byron and his family have been shipped off to the Angola State Penitentiary. The happy couple are expecting a baby and happy ever after, only in 'All It Took Was You' they get so much more.

Belle Of The Mist

Generations Trilogy by J. A. Zollicoffer

If you’re interested in reading a good old-fashioned, love at first sight story, this is the one for you. It’s a trilogy that takes the reader through the lives of Dani and Lisa Kendrick. We see how they meet, how they fall in love and how they survive all that life throws at them.

I like my reading to be angst free, and this story is a perfect example of that. All of the conflict in the story comes from outside of Dani and Lisa’s relationship. Of course they have disagreements, but it’s not the “let’s break up” kind of misunderstandings.

I love all of the characters, even the kids! There are villains, some of them are misunderstood, and others are just downright mean. There are a few fantasy aspects to the series, and I’m good with that, as a matter of fact I like it a lot. If you believe in the connection that true soul mates have, then the fantasy is real and expected. Read the Generations trilogy and see if you don't agree. It's truly a heartwarming tale.

Generations: Book 1 - 212 pages
Dani is an electrician that goes to a club one night to unwind, not knowing that her future is there waiting for her. Lisa is a school teacher, coming out of a bad divorce, looking to have a little fun, she goes out with her friends to a local bar hoping to put the past behind her. When a tall dark woman introduces herself to the blonde, her life is changed forever.

Generations: Book 2 - 124 pages
Dani and Lisa settle down and start a life that changes everyone around them.

Generations: Book 3 - 111 pages
Dani and Lisa find out, that raising children, isn't always smooth sailing.

The Homecoming Trilogy by Janet Lynne

I first read The Homecoming Trilogy many, many years ago, I liked it then, and I like it now. It’s a mushy, romantic, spiritually enlightening, sexy story all wrapped up into one, actually three, well-written balls of fan fiction.

Janna and Ryan attended the same high school, but never really connected back then. Now, years later, Janna is a photographer, and Ryan is a bicycle cop. They meet again totally by accident, when Janna and a few of her friends are attacked on the street that Ryan and her partner are patrolling. The attraction is instantaneous.

I have to say that although Janna can be a little arrogant at times, I mean, if I have to hear about the years she  spent playing guitar in a rock band one more time . . . and Ryan is a lot cocky, I still like them. They are a perfect match. The story is a bit heavy with new age concepts, especially with the use of Reiki, but for me that wasn’t a big deal. It was information, and I love to receive new information. I must add that it wasn’t until I read this story that I learned about the Tantric practice of connecting sexually, allowing partners to experience a 30 minute orgasm. It was an interesting thing to discover, but seriously, who has the time or energy?

I should add another story here, titled Phoenix Rising. It’s an unfinished sci-fi story in 11 parts that takes place way in the future. Devon is the owner/pilot of a spaceship, and Kara has signed on as the ship’s new doctor. I mention this story because Devon and Kara are the future reincarnated Ryan and Janna, who are the past reincarnated Xena and Gabrielle. It’s a pretty cool circle. You should take a weekend and read all 4 stories.

The Homecoming
A violent attack brings together Janna Norden, a rock musician-turned photographer and Ryan Zamora, a tough Cop. Though as different as night and day, light and dark, these two women discover and rekindle a timeless love and a bond that has existed throughout the ages. A romantic story of emotional and spiritual awakening.
http://wp.me/P3Qr5Y-1b1

The Challenge
In this sequel to "The Homecoming", Ryan and Janna, cop and photographer, continue their journey of romantic and spiritual awakening, and begin a family together, but find their love and their unique bond threatened by a serious incident. This story contains explicit descriptions of loving, consensual sex between two women, and depictions of violence. It contains elements of hurt/comfort as well.
http://wp.me/P3Qr5Y-1aX

The Journey
In this story, a sequel to The Homecoming and The Challenge, Ryan and Janna continue their romantic and spiritual journey together and face the joys and pitfalls of parenthood while dealing with career changes. Janna returns to her rock and roll roots while Ryan tries to settle into an important promotion on the police force.

Phoenix Rising (Incomplete)
Tough, jaded space cargo pilot Devon Andropoulos meets her match in Dr. Kara Murphy, and they discover that they share a deep bond. Together, they set off on a journey of adventure, exploration and love. Set in the mid 22nd century.

Fetchin' Cousin Minnie by B. Soiree

I’m conflicted about Fetchin’ Cousin Minnie. B. Soiree has written this western in a thick, hard to read southern dialect. The conflict comes in when I try to decide whether or not the story is a good one. I think it might be. Gaine Sargos is the law in a small town. She's on her way to get her cousin and bring her back to the farm for a visit. While riding the stagecoach, she meets a damsel in distress who needs to be rescued from her domineering father. Sounds good so far, right?

But, I get so caught up in trying to understand what Gaine is saying that I lose my focus on the actual story. It’s 415 pages of choppy, hard to read words. Well, that might be a bit misleading. It's not 415 pages of the hard dialect, it's just when Gaine speaks. I have lived in the south, and although the accents can be thick I’ve never known them to be unintelligible. Maybe the author was hearing a Cajun accent in her head, you know, like Justin when he used to say “I ga-run-tee”

Here is an example of Gain’s speech pattern:
"Ever 'n anon Ah be, Ah 'spose, but Ah done trained mahself ta know Ahm capable n' inventive n' Ah jest gits past it. See, bein' a'feared a' somethin' kin freeze ya jest when ya most needs ta act. So's Ah plan. Ah already done figured how we'd git out that thar stage winder right quick, n' how Ahd pull ya out with'n me, if'n we hadta git'n a hurry. Ah trah not ta give fear no moorin'."

Now that’s rough to decipher. As I said before, I’m not sure about the story, but I do like the characters. Gain is gallant and chivalrous. Meghan is loyal and loving. Give it a try, and see how you feel about it, and let me know.

Fetchin' Cousin Minnie by B. Soiree - 415 pages
On her way to retrieve her saucy Cousin Minnie in Sacramento and bring her back to her ranch, Gaine Sargos, Sheriff of Barden's Corner, meets a green-eyed stranger on the stagecoach who completely changes her life.

The Dylan Morgan Show by Jenny Frame

Let me say this right off the bat. I’m not one of those people that enjoys the presence of small children in my alternative fiction. I don’t have a problem with kids, I love the little rug rats, but in alt fiction they tend to get in the way of grown up life. But I do have a few exceptions, this story is one of them. I like little Molly, and I think she’s a great addition to the plot. Her relationship with “Dien” is one of the best things about this story.

Dylan is this sweet, butch television star that wanders into a diner late one night, and her whole life changes when she sets her eyes on Emily, the lone waitress on duty that night. Emily has no idea who Dylan Morgan is, so her attraction to the celebrity is genuine. Not so for little Molly, she recognizes her instantly, and is immediately smitten with her playful new friend. The characters in this story are endearing, and the plot is refreshing. There’s also Solider Boy and Hippie Girl. They are the two women that. . .well, read it for yourself, you’ll like them. Jenny Frame has done a great job with this one. I’m hoping that there will be a season 3!

Dylan Morgan Show Season One
Dylan Morgan is a successful TV star, and is famous all over the world. Unlike her TV persona, she is in fact an awkward loner, who struggles to relate and communicate with women. Estranged from her family, Dylan leads a lonely life. One night, while making her way home, she walks into a diner and her life is changed forever.

The Conqueror Series by LJ Maas

                                                                            Artwork by LJ Maas

Tale 1: Journey's End - 195 pages
This story offers a twist on the traditional Conqueror tale presenting us with an older version of the Destroyer of Nations than we're used to seeing. In her mid-forties, the Conqueror is a ruler who's now grown weary of the intensity and violence of her younger days. Still a remarkable beauty and still capable of the ruthlessness that carved out her empire, Xena is nevertheless now a warrior in transition - a woman who's learned that no amount of conquest or riches will fill the emptiness within. It is with little enthusiasm then that she prepares to inspect the batch of slaves offered by one of her governors, knowing she must choose one as the customary gift she usually accepts but now seldom uses...only this time a pair of frightened green eyes literally takes her breath away, awakening a compassion and protectiveness within the Conqueror she hasn't felt in years. In the days and weeks to come the feared Empress will find herself going out of her way to avoid frightening her young slave. Struggling against her own rougher edges and the pitiful submissiveness that has allowed Gabrielle of Poteidaia to survive years of servitude, Xena will work to return the dignity long stolen from the young woman, discovering in the process that the heart of a slave may just be the greatest treasure she ever wins. ~Lunacy~
http://thestoreelounge.wordpress.com/authors/tale-one-journeys-end-by-lj-maas/

Tale 2: The Petal of the Rose - 270 pages
The second entry begins with the Lord Conqueror looking forward to the marriage that will turn her one-time slave Gabrielle into Queen of the Empire. It's a joyful time for the two as they get more comfortable in their relationship and as the young woman who stole the Conqueror's heart tries to put her past behind her to embrace her new role in Xena's life and the realm. One challenge immediately presents itself, however, when a visitor from the Centaur nation arrives - a very angry young man with a secret connection to the Conqueror and an attitude that could get him in more trouble than he could ever imagine. In the weeks ahead, Xena and Gabrielle will have to deal not only with this visitor but with a long-time presence in the Conqueror's life - a darkness which still resides within the warrior and which only the gentle emotions stirred by her betrothed seem capable of mitigating. ~Lunacy~
http://thestoreelounge.wordpress.com/authors/tale-two-the-petal-of-the-rose-by-lj-maas/

Tale 3: Time's Fell Hand - 600 pages
The series continues as the Conqueror and her beloved new wife prepare to go on a tour of the empire. With a deeper level of trust between them than ever before, the two will share painful memories as Gabrielle reveals a devastating secret and Xena recalls the events that led to her embracing a life of violence. Together the two will work toward healing those old wounds as they set off toward their childhood homes and Amazonia where a former slave will officially become queen of the Amazons. ~Lunacy~

At Michael's Feet by Doria

At Michael's Feet by Doria
I believe in the theory we all deserve second chances. The story starts at the end of Xena's Conqueror days, and before she meets Gabrielle. She saves the life of a mother and an unborn child, for no gain of her own. In doing so, she is killed. Xena is given a second chance to make up for all the evil she has done, but, the important thing is: The Arch Angel Michael has given Xena 3 life times to find her way. Why three lifetimes? Because Xena asked for that long. This is where the real story comes into play. . . .Doria

Seven Wonders Series by XWPFanatic

When Xena the Conqueror meets Gabrielle the Oracle in this artfully constructed crossover tale of intrigue and violence, romance is not far behind. The fates of Conqueror and Oracle intertwine with Romans, Amazons, betrayal and unexpected alliances. The ensuing events weave a tapestry of revelations about what binds the two opposites.

In the sequel to 'Aftermath,' XWPFanatic offers us another wonderful story. Renegade by Cheyne

What would you do if the mob was after you, and a friend offered to help you disappear? Would you take him up on his offer? Oh, wait, there’s one little problem. The only way to do this is to be the test subject for your friend’s time machine. Hmm, certain death at the hands of the thugs you’ve been paling around with, or be the guinea pig for your buddy’s sci-fi experiment? Well, Trace Sheridan chose to be a guinea pig, and by doing so, not only did she save her life, she saved her soul.

I liked this story, I liked the characters and I liked the world that Cheyne created. Trace and Rachel are written beautifully. The pace of the story is perfect, and the tidbits of information included within story is very informative. For instance, did you know that walnuts can make you sleepy? No? Then go read this story and you’ll find out a few other natural remedies for what ails you.

See Cheyne’s Q and A on this story here:  http://fanfictionreviews2012.freeforums.org/cheyne-appearing-feb-25-mar-1-f70.html

Renegade by Cheyne
What would you do if one minute you were in the 21st century and the next you were in the 19th? One day you're driving a Mustang and the next day you're riding one? Dirty cop Trace Sheridan faces this dilemma as she moves from a present day mob war to a range war over a hundred years in the past, not remembering how she got there. The year is 1879, when cattle barons, crooked lawmen, saloons, painted ladies, cowboys and Indians ruled the Wild West, and laws were only as strong as the gunman who upheld them. In Sagebrush, the town and the sheriff belong to the Cranes, who take what they want or bad things happen.
Trace finds this out firsthand when she ends up on the land of Rachel Young, a struggling ranch woman who won't give in to the merciless cattle baron and his obsessed son. For some unexplainable reason, Rachel trusts the enigmatic Trace who uses 21st century sensibilities to battle 19th century turmoil, while Trace is forced to keep the secret of her origin from the attractive and vulnerable Rachel. Renegade is a story of redemption in its purest form as Trace discovers what truly matters in life and how past really is prologue.

                                                                      No Ocean Deep
This story is the sequel to Heart's Passage and continues to follow the story of Jo Madison and Cadie Jones. The pair are settling into their relationship and getting down to the hard work of resolving the loose ends of their respective lives. Jo must come to terms with the parents she ran away from as a teenager, an act which led to her life on the Sydney streets as a drug lord's enforcer. Cadie must deal with the consequences of leaving her ex-partner, Senator Naomi Silverberg. They travel to Jo's childhood home in western New South Wales where they become embroiled in a mystery involving a corrupt station manager and a flock of murdered sheep. At the same time Jo and her parents go through a cathartic reunion, helped by the love and support of her new girlfriend. Then, Jo is called to Sydney to testify against one of her old cronies and at the same time, Cadie must return to the United States before her visa expires. While Jo is occupied with the court case, and trying to find a legal way to join her lover in the US, Cadie becomes entrapped by Naomi's paranoia and intimidation. After a desperate phone call from Cadie's mother, Jo resolves to get to the US by whatever means and calls on some old acquaintances to get her into the country. Can she arrive at the senator's Chicago house in time to rescue Cadie and ensure Naomi will no longer bother them?
