Xena: Warrior Princess Theme Song
Kaval sviri
Kaval sviri is a traditional Bulgarian folk song. Popularized by the Bulgarian State Radio and Television Female Vocal Choir, it was later used by composer Joseph LoDuca as the basis for the Xena fight theme, in the show Xena: Warrior Princess.
Narrative Overlay:
In a time of ancient gods, warlords and kings
A land in turmoil cried out for a hero.
She was Xena, a mighty princess forged in the heat of battle.
The power. The passion. The danger.
Her courage will change the world
Translation of the Xena Theme Song (Bulgarian chanting translated from Joseph Lo Duca's English lyrics) Sung by Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares (The Bulgarian's Women Choir)
Jenata iazdi samotna A woman is riding alone
Neinoto minalo srazi ia Her shameful past almost destroyed her
Sreshtu voiskite ot tumen sviat She is battling the army of the dark world
Vouva za dobro tia She is fighting in the name of good
Rogovi zvunove idvat Horns are sounding as she approaches
Napraite put na voina Way must be made for a fierce battle
Tupani biat vuv ritum Rhythmical drums are heard
Princhesata e pak tuka The Princess is back
This is another, slightly different version
The Warrior Princess rides alone
Her past drives her from shame
Against the forces of a dark world
She fights for good, not for fame
Horns sound her coming, blare her name
Make way the warrior! Cheer!
Drums beat a rhythm
The Warrior Princess is here!
I always wondered what the words were. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMan, have I missed hearing that theme! Thanks for that!

ReplyDeleteThe Bulgarian words in here are true for only the full slow opening theme, but alas not the one played in the opening theme of the episodes and in Zena's first appearance ever in Hercules S01 E08. Does anyone know the Bulgarian lyrics to this song?
